Brilliant and mind-blowing

Warlord and Exiled were both awesome biker books and I really liked them a lot...so when I was given the chance to read this new dark romance from Lana Grayson, of course I jumped at the chance.
DARK doesn't even begin to describe this one...perverse, twisted, taboo, cruel, shocking, emotional, depraved...(do I have your attention yet?) and very well might be one of the most difficult kidnap/mental torture/submission books I have read in a while. It was one of those stories that is at the same time as compelling as it is hard to digest...a bloody train wreck that you know you should not watch but can't help yourself because it was just so fascinating and above all else you want to...no, NEED to know what will happen next.
A beautiful 20 year old woman who is left shattered after the deaths of her father, brothers and now reeling when her mother marries the head of her family's rival business owner and she is forced to play nice with him and his three sons as they attempt a takeover of her father's legacy, is the basic premise of this story. At first Sarah is strong willed and very sure of herself as she believes she has everything wrapped up tight and has the legal means to prevent her stepfather and his sons from taking over her father's business...but nothing could be farther from the truth as she finds out to what horrible lengths these men are willing to go to take what is rightfully hers and completely destroy everything she thought she knew about humanity. What starts off as a kidnapping to punish and teach Sarah a harsh lesson, turns into a game of manipulation and control that does not end like any of the players thought it would and causes some long-lasting consequences.
I would strongly recommend potential readers to seriously heed the warnings before buying and reading this book. It is at times very steamy (in a depraved and shocking way) and crosses a few lines at times into the world of BDSM, voyeurism and humiliation...with non-con molestation and some seriously twisted mind games played for control and sometimes for pleasure.
I am a fan of this author's work and am just dying for book 2 already (the ending of this one will leave you panting for more) but again, it is not for everyone and although the market is flooded with all kinds of "step-brother" romances, this one is definitely not anything like I have read before. I am still processing everything and traumatized by some of what I just read. Bravo for the challenge.

I'm dying for Book 2!

This book is unlike any I've ever read, and I thought I knew "dark". Please heed the warnings the author has posted. If you are uncomfortable reading about subjects such as torture, humiliation, submission, bondage, rape and molestation, this book is not for you. The warning is no joke. Proceed at your own risk.
This book was so dark that I read most of it with my stomach tied in knots and adrenaline flowing, hating the characters and plotting murder on one in particular. I was riveted and read it all in one sitting-- not because I enjoyed the subject matter, but because I had to see what would happen next, and I had to make sure the lead female (Sarah) was going to be OK.
It's hard for me to write a review on a book like this because frankly, I hated the subject matter and found very few redeeming qualities about the males in this book. I don't trust the brothers, no matter how much they profess to care for Sarah. I don't trust the motivations and feelings to be genuine, even in Nicholas's case. The book messes with your mind, and you don't really know what to believe. Is he bad? Is he good? What happens when an heir is born? Will they murder her? They won't need her then. I can't justify what they did... I think it's unrealistic to love someone who could torment and humiliate you that way. I don't think you can recover any amount of trust or redemption after doing something like this. I think the humiliation portions of the book affected me more than any other. I barely blinked at the violence, but the humiliation...the mind games and the things she is forced to do... it was hard to read.
My stars aren't for the subject matter. My stars are for the inner strength Sarah displays despite all she endures. My stars are for the tiny things I saw and liked in the brothers. I have my favorite, and it's not the oldest brother. My stars are for the skill the author shows in her writing. The book is engaging; Lana's writing style is superb, and she manages to convey so much feeling, so much torment, but also hope, redemption and somehow, in all of this, love. I am so glad for the male POV chapters. Without those, I would have a very hard time finding any redemption in Nicholas's actions, and I'd hate him just as much as I hate his father. It helps to have his perspective, and it was a smart move on the author's part.
I'm dying to see what happens next, and Lana gave me hope that all will end well, despite the horrible things Sarah and the brothers are having to endure. My hope? That Sarah murders her stepfather in a brutal way. Maybe the book turned me dark? :) This book left me wanting more--wanting closure.
Will I read the next one? You bet! Absolutely! I NEED to read the next one! Overall, Lana did a superb job with a very difficult subject matter. This is an author to watch! I'm going to read her other books now. :)

Wow! This book was a twisted and dark rollercoaster of emotions! It’s sexy, it’s frightening, it’s suspenseful, and it’s such a tug-of-war between what’s right and wrong.
Sarah is determined to do whatever she can to protect her family’s company, but her father’s will stipulates the corporation can only pass to a male heir. Her family’s greatest enemies take advantage of the clause, kidnapping her and demanding the heir be theirs. It only gets more wicked from there. But what I didn’t expect was the chemistry between Sarah and her step-brothers. Nicholas is ambitious and ruthless in his pursuit of power, but Sarah challenges him each step of the way. Max seems cruel and violent, but he cares just as much for Sarah’s safety. And Reed is such a sweetheart, even when he’s confronting his own demons. Sexy, Sexy, Sexy!!
This book is like no other step-brother book I’ve read—and it isn’t for everyone! It’s dark dark dark and has some situations that could make people squirm. But I can’t WAIT to see what happens in book two!!
