How does Victoria Vane do Medieval? Splendidly!

Adèle of Vannes was married off by her parents to the dissolute brute that is Rodalt for political reasons. Fortunately for her, her despicable husband got himself killed during a battle, and Adèle though that would be the end of that, and that she’d finally find peace in her beloved Brittany. But her country was bartered away during another skirmish involving the Norsemen, and Valdrik Vagr arrives on her doorstep claiming that they must marry or else she loses Brittany. Valdrik, for once, came by Brittany by honest means: it was his for the taking, no pillaging required. He is a Viking with a conscience, and will not take Adèle by force, but he does need a bride of royal blood to retain the kingdom of Brittany, and he is quite happy with the looks of the woman. Adèle did not wish this fate on herself, but she will do what must be done for her people, and she is pleasantly surprised that the conqueror is so much more of a gentleman than her late husband.
O the beauty of fiction when you can wish for someone’s demise, in this case the horrendous Rodalt. BRETON WOLFE is a novella from Kindle Worlds’ World of de Wolfe Pack, and also the first novella in a new series by Vanessa Vane, and what a debut it is! It is obvious that Ms. Vane has carefully researched her subject, as the Middle Ages feel completely authentic: from the political tugs of war, the battles, the clothes, the behaviour of the characters; the author did everything right. BRETON WOLFE is seriously action-packed, fast-paced, and of course very well written, as expected from Victoria Vane. The characters are very well fleshed-out, and BRETON WOLFE also hints at what lies ahead story-wise, and bear in mind that this is a novella! Ms. Vane even answered that most important question (to me): in which language they spoke with each other. I loved how the romance progressed, how Adèle and Valdrik interacted with each other, and how the respect ignited sparks. BRETON WOLFE is a captivating read, and I am so happy to know that book two will feature Emma and Ivar; this should be as epic! An excellent read!

4.5 Stars! History Victoria Vane style! Valdrik the Viking...Va-Va Voom!

There few authors that can hold a candle to Victoria Vane's beautiful prose and captivating storytelling when she puts her own unique spin on history and brings it to life!
I wasn't sure the direction this story was going to take, so I was a little puzzled in the beginning, and then when I realized where it was going and put the pieces together, I was all in and couldn't wait to read more!
The story is somewhat brutal and harsh in nature at the beginning, but appropriate for the time period and the cultures that are referenced, and as it moves forward the reader can sense the warm, sweet and tender that is to come. I love stories that involve people of different ethnicity, and especially when enemies become lovers.
There is strong, compassionate heroine in Adèle, she's torn between her sense of duty and the intense feelings that are stirring for her sworn enemy. Valdrik has a reputation that puts fear into his enemies on the battlefield, but when he meets his capture, he's stunned by her beauty and bravery, and falls for the woman that could be the beginning of his end. Valdrik shows Adèle a side of him that will defy everything she's heard about this brutal Viking. The harder she fights the attraction, the closer it pulls her into his arms and bed!! SWOON!
This author never lacks for details in her stories, and it's evident again that she's done her research. The foundation for the history in that time period and setting is in place, and then the magic and splendor begin when the author introduces us to charming characters and weaves a fascinating tale that captures reader's imaginations.
Why not a full 5 stars? There is a brief period in the story where a separation takes place and I felt the story lost some of its momentum. However, I understood the situation as it related to the overall plot, and that this is a novella where there is a limit to word and page count. Taking that into consideration, I still felt the author was able to give the reader a complete story which I truly enjoyed. This included an satisfying, sweet epilogue that segues into the next book and will have readers wondering what is to become of the brothers.
I am a huge fan of Victoria Vane's and love that as of recent she's delved into contemporary romance, but when she takes readers back in time her writing takes on an epic quality and nothing can quite compare! And now with the knowledge that Breton Wolfe is the stepping stone of what is to become a series...well I'm giddy with glee!
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy historical romance, Vikings, enemies-to-lovers themes, and anyone who enjoys exceptional writing and brilliant storytelling!

A great start to a new series

I have been a fan of this author ever since I read her debut historical a number of years ago and was excited to read her first historical release in two years. I’m not very familiar with this period of history tending to stick to more the regency period when it comes to my historical romances only delving into this period once. However I have loved every single of historical romances of this author that I have read so far. So I was willing to give this one a go because quiet frankly of the author and the fact that involved Vikings.
Breton Wolfe didn’t disappear on any level. A story of two enemies forced together for different reasons determined to make something out of the marriage to make a future fit for their own respective people. Though they share this common goal, their thoughts about each other aren’t but.
In one corner, we got Adele of Vannes, a woman who has been the dutiful daughter , determined to protect Brittany any cost. She is a strong willed woman who has been shaken by philandering husband idea of marriage but she knows she deserves better and has been dutiful to him for the past four years. She may not love him but she knows her place.
Until things changed and he is killed by the Norse who have come to claim the kingdom. The very men she has shares a deep hatred for because of what they have done to her family. She is the only protector of her people so be it and If she needs to make a deal with the enemy, she will sacrifice herself as she no spineless woman.
Leaving her to the mercy of the man in the other corner, Valdrik who is enchanted by this woman and knows he needs her to help his people . He may be an harden man, battle wary and determined to claim his own little piece but he is no fool and honourable man despite his past as a ruthless Viking.
Will these two be able to make something out this with one determined to protect her people and the other wanting to help all?
It seems dark but it is quite a fun novel. I wasn’t overall surprised with this novella and the roles that the characters played. As it was a welcomed novella, I have missed reading a historical from this author. Whilst this wasn’t the familiar realms that I have come to known from this author with her other series. I wasn’t disappointed at all because I was caught up with their story. If anything I could critic about aside from being a storyline that was predictable given the history of the time. It was that ending, I want to be mad because of what happened but I can’t. The characters were on par for this story of story. An alpha male determined to woe the woman and make the kingdom his and a woman who will do anything to protect her kingdom and sacrifice herself in doing so.
I know I’m being vague here but this only the beginning and I love the direction that the series is heading. So I will leave you with this , if you are looking for quick read with a plot that is accurate and strong female characters. Then don’t miss this novella from Vane.
