About the Author
Douglas Witherup serves as the Executive Director of Church Ministries for his tribe of the Assemblies of God in NC, helping to lead ministry for over 300 churches across the state. He also contributes as a Teaching Pastor at cfa Church and as an adjunct professor at Southeastern University and Trinity Bible College. Doug has a B.A. from Southeastern University, an MTh. from the University of Wales, Bangor, and a DMin. from George Fox University. Doug, his wife Camden, and two children, Cade and Ana live in sunny North Carolina where they love to spend time outdoors.

BOTH AND

I don't mind listening to John Clayton (an ESPN football analyst) talk about the NFL action behind the scenes. I appreciate his insight on the implications of a star player being traded. But I wouldn't listen to him talk about proper form-tackling. He's a scrawny guy that has (presumably) never played a down of football in his life. In the same way, I don't want to read a book about preaching from someone who isn't a great preacher.
There are some folks that are brilliant academics and can speak deftly about the theology of preaching but may not be great preachers themselves. Others are great preachers but aren't too bright. Dr. Doug Witherup is both. He is an academic and is brilliant in his handling of the topic. He moves deftly through the content and I can promise you that you will learn something new on every page. Doug is very well read on a broad range of subject matter and it makes for a fun and enlightening reading experience. But perhaps most importantly, Doug is a phenomenal preacher. He has been preaching his entire adult life and that gives the book a unique credibility. He comes to the topic with wealth of practical knowledge and you will come away feeling empowered to go out and use what you've learned.
As an added bonus, Doug is a fine writer. The book is engaging and funny. You won't want to put it down.
There is no way that you won't be a better preacher after reading this book.

Powerful Simplicity

Through the years, I have been taught the fundamentals of preaching, how to develop preaching outlines and how to study the Bible from front to back and back to front, but never have I seen the approach given by Dr Witherup. "Interrobang" preaching; The name itself even leads to the main point of it's message. Creating an interest and a curiosity that keeps people wanting more. Dr Witherup's approach is not some new gimmick or novel idea, however I believe it opens up a new insight into the basic fundamentals of communication that Jesus Himself used 2000 years ago. Somehow in our efforts to remain Biblically accurate in our messages, we have become Biblically ignorant in our methodology. I can assure you, if you are a communicator of any kind, the principles of this book will give you a fresh perspective on how your words become either powerful or powerless when they reach the ears of your audience.
I have listened to Dr Witherup preach and often wondered how his presentation of the same text that I had preached in the past come out so powerful; now I know. I have began to implement some of his methods and have gotten responses from people like "that is the best message I have heard in years" and "Wow, that message opened my eyes to things I have never noticed before".
Take the time to read this book, you'll be glad you did!

It is a great resource for ANYONE desiring to become an effective communicator

Few books grab my attention they way "Interrobang Preaching" has. It is a great resource for ANYONE desiring to become an effective communicator. Having personally heard Dr. Douglas Witherup preach and teach, I would liken him to any of the greatest TED Talk speakers. His ability to communicate an "ancient-future" method of speaking, sets this book apart from traditional preaching resources and brings the reader into the mysterious discovery of the Jesus style of communication. I have personally used it as a training resource for our "groups" leaders with great success. Here are 3 reasons for a communicator to use the SIM Card method of communicating found in Interrobang Preaching:
