Daniel feels blessed to co-author The Big Decision with his son, Zach. In the second part of the book, he’s drawn on his expertise in brain science, mindfulness and helping doctors make medical decisions to write a guide for parents, teachers and leaders to make better life decisions.
Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Friedland is also the author of “Evidence-Based Medicine: A Framework for Clinical Practice,” one of the first textbooks on this process by which all physicians are now trained to make science-based decisions with patients.

Zach Friedland
At the age of 13, Zach co-authored The Big Decision with his father to learn and teach others how to make good decisions in life.
In the first part of the book, Zach has drawn on his experience in Pop Warner football to write a story about how Ryan, an up-and-coming star running back on the middle school football team, is faced with a big decision. When Ryan asks his dad for help, rather than telling him what to do, his dad empowers him with a framework to make his big decision for himself.
Zach has helped guide a class of 5th graders through a 4-week journey in which they learned how to apply the book to work through difficult decisions they were facing. In October 2013, along with his father, he’ll be presenting on how to make better life decisions at the Conscious Capitalism CEO Summit.
Zach lives in San Diego, California, where he is in 8th grade and is passionate about lacrosse. He also loves to surf, hang out with friends and play with his younger brother, Dylan.

Read it, Teach it, Read it again, share it with your family!

Relatable, inspiring and Timeless. Truly a great read and here is why: First, thank you Danny Friedland for your coordinated efforts with Zach to put this book out there for all of us to absorb. I am lucky enough to have been through Dr.Friedlands course Achieving Peak Performance which can be found here. [...] (fyi, this is not a paid endorsement :), It's just so good, it's not fair to you the reader, that I don't share it with you) With that, my humble suggestion to all of you reading this and wondering about the book and what it may offer is this: Get the book and read it. Period. Then, take the course on achieving peak performance. Then, read the book again. Last, begin to use what you've learned in your daily lives and things will change for you and for all of us.
I've learned quite a number of things in my life, but I'm still eager to seek new ways to improve my internal voice that is on 24/7 and regulates my actions and activities. I once read, "If you don't like where you're at, or how you got there....remember, your best thinking got you where you are......and your'e best thinking probably won't get you out". So, seek wisdom to learn to think differently was the goal.
Dr. Friedland has laid the groundwork to do just that, to think differently about your situations and your own reactions to what is happening at the moment. You'll also learn how to Identify what's most important to you on a daily basis through 15 minutes daily of complete quiet and reflection. This may be the secret right here! When you're laser focused, things tend to pick up speed and results become more readily visible. Here is the best part for me, the ABSOLUTE PINNACLE FOR ME, I get to teach this to my kids........... I'm a father of two boys, 9 and 7. Being exposed to the brilliance of what can happen here is amazing. Not only am I learning more about how to re-frame what is going on around me to create a positive experience, I get to teach it to my kids. So not only are they being taught to think differently at an early age, at 45 years old, I"m being taught the exact same thing and reinforcing this while spending time in the place I truly love the most, which is in the same air space as my family. If I know that I can teach kids, I can affect generations to come. If you haven't heard of the butterfly effect, give it a google search. I'm flapping my wings over here with my family with incredible guidance from Danny Friedland and Zach. Everything you do matters. Everything. Dr. Friedland, I thank you. My family does too!

Excellent!

Considering this book was written by a father and son, I decided to read it together with my son, who is almost the same age as Zach. The results were really inspiring in that my son was able to identify with Zach's predicament of having to make a difficult decision which affected multiple people close to him. Major decision making is clearly a situation that kids(and adults) are faced with more often than we realize yet don't necessarily have the tools required to effectively deal with such circumstances. We found Zach's process of arriving at the his decision, as well as the decision he made to be insightful and very valuable.
Dr Friedland's framework has been written for the layman in terms that anyone can identify with subsequently easily and effectively put into practice with immediate results. I commend both Zach and his dad for a job well done and I recommend this book to anyone with kids of any age!

Loved this book

When I began reading this book, I did not expect it to culminate in some life changing concepts to live a better life. It seems like a simple book and a simply story, but I have used the concepts which are amazingly articulated in my life almost daily. The idea of asking better questions to get better answers is brilliant, and it can be used by readers of all ages.
